George O’Dowd, known to 80’s music enthusiasts and VH1 fanatics as Boy George was sentenced to 15 months in jail on Friday after being convicted of imprisoning a male escort by handcuffing him to a wall in a London apartment.
“Boy” had been convicted in December of handcuffing Norwegian escort Audun Carlsen to a wall hook at his East London apartment. During the trial, prosecutors said Carlsen was held by George for under an hour.
The singer denied the charge, saying he had restrained Carlsen with handcuffs while trying to figure out if a computer had been tampered with. Carlsen, 29, said O’Dowd swung at him with a metal chain as he ran from the apartment after a naked photo shoot.
Once again, The front “man” for the hit 80’s Grammy winning group Culture Club, who’s gender bending cross dressing act forced millions of straight men worldwide to seriously question their sexuality, blamed this latest episode on a drug crazed good time, This comes as no surprise to anyone who has seen Boy George in and out of court over the last 20 years, or picking up trash on street sides as part of court ordered community service.
The phenomenon of Boy George and Culture Club swept the U.S. in the mid 80’s, and had American teens and club goers alike sporting braids, colorful ribbons, flowing scarves, and over sized white T-Shrits with big letters on them that spelled out “Choose Life”, and “Boy”.
The groups popularity and acceptance was no doubt single handedly responsible for opening thousands of closet doors all over America.
Although Culture Club sold millions of records and controlled the radio airwaves from 1982-1985, though you will not find a straight man alive today that will admit he actually owned a Culture Club cassette, or knew the words to any of the songs.
We of course have no problem reminding said males that they not only know more than one Culture Club song, but if you click play, you will unconsciously start to mouth the words. Don’t worry we won’t tell anyone.
